Welcome to Daily Bible Reading and Prayer 2 Minutes
Today’s scripture is from Isaiah chapter 60 verse 1
Rise up and shine, for your light has come; the glory of the Lord shines upon you.
Great True Light
From the soft sunlight streaming through your window in the early morning, to the headlights guiding you home at night, light is essential in our lives. Light is greater than any physical light we know…
In Isaiah 60:1, the prophet speaks of this greater light. And this verse is more than just beautiful poetry and prophecy; it is a call to action, an encouragement for God’s people to find hope—the light in the midst of darkness (see Isaiah 59:9-10). :
“Arise and shine! For your light has come! The glory of the Lord shines upon you.”
(Isaiah 60:1)
This light is a beacon of hope, a picture of salvation and spiritual awakening. This light is the true light, the Messiah—Jesus Christ. He was the light that God’s people needed at that time (Isaiah 59:9-10); He is also the light that our hearts desperately need today.
In a world that feels drowned in darkness—catastrophe, war, injustice, and suffering—Isaiah’s message invites us to embrace God’s true redemptive light. This light is revealed in the New Testament as Jesus Christ. Let the light shine brightly within you, driving away the shadows of darkness and illuminating the way for those who do not know the light.
Pause for a moment. Imagine a world filled with the love of God and the light of truth. Can you see a world where the light of Christ shines from the window of every home onto every street?
God wants to use you—yes, you—to shine for Him.
Let us pray together.
God, you are the source of all goodness and wisdom. If I can shine in the world, it’s because that light comes from You. Your true light is my salvation and guidance. Please use me to shine in the world to demonstrate Your grace and mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
